ABOUT 1886 CAFÉ & BAKERY

In 1969, when The Driskill Hotel was threatened with demolition, the Heritage Society of Austin rallied local citizens to save their beloved landmark. Volunteers raised more than $500,000 to hold off the wrecking ball primarily by selling $10 stocks in the newly formed non-profit Driskill Hotel Corporation.
The Heritage Society also founded the 1886 Lunchroom, successfully operated for 20 years by members stocked with their own family recipes and a fervent pride in the hotel. Known as "Austin's socializing parlor," it became the predecessor to the 1886 Cafe & Bakery, which opened on July 4, 2002.
The cafe at the busy corner of Sixth and Brazos streets remains the social gathering place for locals and out-of-town guests alike looking for delicious, regional American foods that combine time-honored Texas comfort foods and contemporary fare with the innovative flair of the talented chefs.
Austin's finest fresh-baked cakes, pies and signature pastries.
The newly renovated Café & Bakery is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night dining.
Open: 7 am until 10 pm, Sun-Thurs; 7 am until 2 am, Fri-Sat.
